Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had the experience recently of missing their oath ceremony and what happened subsequently.

In my case the letter from CIC never arrived and I had been checking the online system regularly for 2 months after clearing my exam but stopped checking for 2 weeks and that was when my ceremony was scheduled.

I cleared the exam, Feb 12, 2014 in Toronto. Then called the phone line on May 1, 2014 and was told the oath ceremony had been concluded for me on April 30 and I was a no show. When I had called and spoken with CIC on April 10 and they had informed me everything was fine.

Since, I never received a letter informing me of the date of the oath ceremony I couldn't have known to attend.

Any ideas what happens in a situation like this.

Thanks,
D

Hello D,

Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us. It is unfortunate that it has happened this way.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre, it is important that you send a letter to the office responsible for your file with the reason for missing the oath ceremony and with a request for a new appointment. You must do this as soon as possible.

You can get some additional information by contacting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

1. Here is what CIC states:

"Ceremony (oath) No-Show

Applicants are given one opportunity to appear for their citizenship ceremony and take the oath of citizenship using notice CIT 0024. Those who do not attend their ceremony will not be rescheduled automatically into a new event.

Applicants who do not or cannot attend their event must notify CIC within 30 days from the date of their event. Applicants must provide a reasonable excuse for not being able to attend their event or for missing their event.

2. Note you have 30 days from the Oath date to contact CIC with a reasonable excuse, if your excuse is not accepted or it is longer than 30 days, your application will be considered abandoned.

I also missed my citizenship oath which was on march 11 2015 in ottawa ontario. But I missed becuase I didn't receive a notice in the mail on when to appear. I waited and waited for 3 and half months and finally called CIC called centre. The told me to check online and I found out that I mised the oath date. I just finnished writing a letter to my local office explaining why I missed because I didnt recrive any notice in the mail. Do you think guys I have chance to take the oath agian.
