According to health service ontario, person can be outside of the country for not more then 212 days of any 12 months.

My concern is, how 12 month time is calculated?

Is that the time person started living in canada or the time person gets the health card of ontario or 12 month time is calculated based on when person left the country.

For example.

I started living in ontario from july 2014 then i left country for some serious illness treatment from March 2015 - Nov 2015.

Now my question is how my 12 month time is calculated ...is it from July 2014 - June 2015 (when i firsy started living in Ontario) OR Oct 2014 - Sep 2015(when i got my ohip) OR Mar 2015 - Feb 2016 (when i left country in March).

Am I still covered by OHIP?

Please advise.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

According to a ServiceOntario Representative, the 12-month period begins when you leave Canada.

Therefore, it is likely in your case that it would have begun March 2015. Therefore, it would seem that you would have until March 2016 to meet the eligibility criteria of "be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period".

However, we strongly suggest that you call ServiceOntario directly to confirm this information and for some information specific to your situation.

Here is some additional contact information:

ServiceOntario, INFOline at 1-866-532-3161
In Toronto, 416-314-5518
TTY 1-800-387-5559
In Toronto, TTY 416-327-4282
Hours of operation : 8:30am - 5:00pm

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
