Hello,
I arrived late for citizenship oath ceremony. I do not have any good reason except the traffic. What should I do? This was my first appearance letter. Do they reschedule it automatically or do I have to write a letter? Will the judge or other person concerned give me a positive feedback? I do not want to re-do the application process. Please give me any suggestions you might have.
I called CIC and they told me to write a letter but the security guard in the office said that it will be automatically rescheduled since it was the first time. I am in a dilemma. I currently have a PR status.

Hello,
I got a letter from CIC with a new date. This message is to everyone who has the same problem as mine. Send them the letter with your reason as to why you were late. If the reason is good then you'll definitely get a chance. What I meant to say is that your honesty will be rewarded. Sooner you send the letter, sooner you get a response.

Thank you Moderator for your help.

Hi, it happened to me recently, I'm not to sure how to write the letter, would yo be able to give me some advise what's the best way to write it?

Hello,

Thank-you for sharing your situation and question with us.

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)'s website, if you are unable to attend your scheduled citizenship ceremony,
Contact the citizenship office immediately. You will be rescheduled for another ceremony as soon as possible.

If you do not come to the ceremony and do not contact the citizenship office within 60 days, your application will be considered abandoned and your file will be closed.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

I actually did call them and they said I have to send the office a letter explaining why I didn't show. My question is how to write an official letter to the government, never had to write one, so not sure what to write and how? is there any samples of letters?

Hello There,

Thank you for sharing your question with us.

Everybody over 14 years old is required to attend the citizenship ceremony. This means that every member of your family eligible for citizenship needs to attend the ceremony in order to get their Canadian citizenship.

From your post, I was unclear if it was only your mother who received the oath invitation or your whole family. If you are unclear about the status of your application and that of your father’s, you may want to call Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for information.

If your father is scheduled to attend a citizenship ceremony and is not able to attend, he should call the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre as soon as possible to let them know.

It is important to try to attend the ceremony you are scheduled for. If you do not attend your ceremony after receiving a warning, it is possible your application could be considered abandoned.

You can find out more about citizenship on Settlement.Org or CitizenshipCounts.Ca .

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Contact them, be honest and apologetic. Life happens and they are not going to hold it against you. The citizenship ceremony I attended had a few people not show up and I'm sure it happens all the time. As was mentioned earlier, just don't ignore it otherwise they will close your file.

Something else to remember, be sure that when you arrive at the citizenship ceremony to have your letter with you that has the citizenship ceremony invitation contained with it.
