Hello,

You are very welcome!

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us.

You can find some helpful information on what the requirements to become a paramedic in Ontario are on the a Region of Peel website in the Becoming a Paramedic - Education and Training section.

Here is an excerpt,

Becoming a paramedic involves a 4 step process.

STEP 1: Successfully graduate from a certified Ontario college Paramedic Program with a Paramedic diploma.

STEP 2: Upon completion of your Paramedic diploma, graduates must successfully pass the provincial certification exam (Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant).

STEP 3: Now being a provincially licensed AEMCA you may apply to work in an EMS service. Peel Regional Paramedic Service requires that all potential Paramedic recruits partake in the Centralized Paramedic Competency Recruitment Testing.

STEP 4: Upon employment, new Paramedic recruits must successfully complete a certification exam by our local base hospital physician at Sunnybrook Osler Centre for Pre-Hospital Care. This is to allow Paramedics to perform delegate medical acts under the doctor’s authority.

You may want to contact the nearest Employment Service for some assistance and information regarding what your options are.

Most Employment Services provide career planning and career counselling.

You mentioned that you are a nurse, you may also find some helpful information in our Alternative Jobs section.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
