Hi there,

I filled out my citizen application in 2002 and since then became a citizen. I had kept copies of my application, and recently I was going through all old paper work to see what I can throw away. I noticed on my application that I made an error under marital status. It says married when i was suppose to mark off never married.

Do I need to correct this with immigration?

Will this cause a problem for me if I want to get married in the future?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be a little concerned or worried about this discovery.

According to several CIC representatives we spoke to, because this was a Canadian citizenship application, there is no affect on you or your status.

They mentioned that there would be consequences if this had been any other type of Canadian immigration application. However, since it was a citizenship application, you should not have to worry.

We suggest that you may want to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly to confirm this information.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
