Hi,

I am the sponsor of my spouse. He received his permanent residency a year ago. We are currently living in Toronto.

We have a daughter that is a year and a half, but I have not applied for the CCTB or any other benefits because I had read that in order to qualify, I needed to have filed an income tax report for the year. We were living abroad and I am no longer a non-resident for tax purposes. I have filed my income tax report and was given an estimate as to what I may be eligible to get.

My question is, does the fact that I am a sponsor exclude me from obtaining the CCTB or other benefits and are there special forms to fill out because I am a sponsor?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

The fact that you are a sponsor does not exclude you from receiving the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB).

It is not considered social assistance.

You can find some information on how to apply in our Settlement.Org How do I apply for the CCTB? article.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
