Hello,

My Mother applied for the Canadian citizenship this year but the application was sent back because it was incomplete so she decided that she will request for a refund.

She requested for the refund in the beginning of July however, it is now September 9th and we have not received any news or updates about the refund that we had asked for so it has made us worried if the form had ran into any issues.

My questions are: how long does it take for a refund to normally process? and if the answer is "not beyond 2 months", what should I be doing in order to resolve this issue on my end?

I understand that I should be calling the Call Center regarding this issue but my parents do not speak English as a first language and I unfortunately have a tight work schedule which does not give me the opportunity to call GIC during its business hours and even if I do, I am worried that they will ask for documents that I would not have on me because I would be at work and not at home. If anyone can provide me any advice on what I should or should not be doing that would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Yes, I did try to use google to find solutions but I think an answer from someone who has experienced a similar situation like mine would be better.

Hello John,

Thank you for sharing your mother's situation and questions with us.

Thanks for sharing the details of what you have done up until now to try to find a response.

We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre, the processing time for a refund is generally 16 weeks.

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre representative stated that if it passes the 16 week point, then the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre should be contacted in order to determine the issue.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
