Can the Landlord increase the rent without doing maintenance that is needed to be done?

ie: repairs to the bathroom shower tile, mildew stains. i bought bathroom cleaners and stain Remover and nothing works.

However, I've sent in a request to the landlord about this problem two years ago, he sent someone to whitewash the tiles, but the mildew returns. what the landlord is doing, when a tenant moves out he replaces the bathroom tub and tiles and then rent the units for higher price.

what step can i take to have the landlord fix this problem.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this.

Regarding rent increases, you can find some detailed information regarding rent increases and what is allowed in our Settlement.Org How often can a landlord increase the rent? article.

It is important to note that a landlord can raise the rent every twelve months by a percentage that the provincial government sets. The landlord must give the tenant a written notice at least 90 days before the rent goes up.

In terms of the maintenance issues, it may be best for you to contact the nearest Community Legal Clinic for some assistance.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
