Hi,

My wife, 8 month old daughter and I entered Canada for the first time on 15 July 2016.

However, my wife and daughter are planning to return to our home country on 01Aug16 whereas I plan to stay.

Please can you provide me a response for my following queries:
1) When my wife and child leaves to the home country, as planned, will I be able to collect their PR cards in the address I provided for the PR cards to be sent?

2) I would be travelling to my home country mid- January to bring them back to Canada. Can I take their PR cards with me so they can return to Canada with their respective PR cards?

Thank you for your attention,

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

Welcome to Canada!

It is great that you are looking into this information so soon.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Regarding your PR card, you shouldn't have to worry about collecting their PR cards because generally, new permanent residents, IRCC will mail you the PR card once you arrive in Canada. If you did not provide a mailing address when you became a permanent resident, you must send Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada your address through IRCC’s online tool within 180 days of the day on which you became a permanent resident. If you do not do this, your permanent residency could be cancelled and you may need to re-apply.

If you do not receive your PR card within six weeks of giving IRCC your Canadian address, you should let IRCC know.

In terms of taking their PR cards with you when your travel to your home country, some of our users have stated that they have had friends or family who are residing at the Canadian address that they provided, successfully forward or carry their PR Cards on to them via a safe/secure method. Some have had it sent via courier or sent with a travelling family member successfully.

However, it is important to note that if you would like to take them to your family, it is important to be aware aware of the risks of them possibly being misplaced or possibly seized. It is important that if you choose to do this, that they are secure.

We suggest that you may want to contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre directly for some additional information.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
