Hello,

Thank you for sharing your question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some information regarding what landlords can ask for in our Settlement.Org What kind of questions can a landlord ask? and What documents do landlords ask for? articles.

In terms of Tenant Insurance, the landlord can require a tenant to have Liability insurance. It can only be for damage the tenant is responsible for, and only if required by tenancy agreement (lease).

You can find some additional information in this Residential Tenants’ Insurance document.

The document recommends that if an issue about insurance arises between a tenant and a landlord, it is recommended that the tenant should obtain some legal advice based on the particular facts of the situation.

You may wan to contact the nearest Community Legal Clinic for some information and advice.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
