Hello,
I m seeking advice on the following. Both I and my husband are PRs temporary living outside Canada. Recently we got a baby born overseas. We r planning to settle permanently in Toronto. For this we got a TRV for our little one. Once we r in Canada we will start sponsoring process. I have several questions in this regard
1. Do we need to request a TRP at the point of entry or we can apply for sponsorship with TRV?
2. How to ensure we will get at least 1 year stay for my little one on TRV?? i heard usually they grant 6 months?

It may be helpful to read this previous Settlement.Org Apply For TRV And/Or TRP? - For My Child Discussion Thread.
We have had some of our users previously state that they have been able to contact CIC from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to CIC. Then you should be transferred to the IRCC Call Centre.
Please note though we are not sure if this number continues to work this way.
You may want to give it a try.
Please be aware that long distance charges will apply.

1. As you were issued a TRV for the child s/he doesn't require a TRP.
2. Once you have returned to Canada with the child, you can then start the sponsorship process. The application will be processed as "out of Canada" but most likely at the Ottawa office.
3. Ask for a year on entry. If you don't get one, then if only 6 months are issued, then you apply for an extension of the visitor status near the end of the 6 months.
