Hello, I was born in Edmonton, Alberta and was allowed to carry duel citizenship with my dads country (Austria).

When my parents became citizens in the US in the late 70's, they took away my right to keep my Canadian citizenship.

How do I regain this and can I now apply for a passport as well?

If so, would you please tell me which forms to fill out.

Thank you so much,

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some information on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website in the Application to resume Canadian citizenship under subsection 11(1) (CIT 0301) section.

According to the Application to resume Canadian citizenship under subsection 11(1) (CIT 0301),

This application is for a person who was previously a Canadian citizen, other than a person whose citizenship was revoked, and who wishes to resume citizenship under subsection 11(1) of the Citizenship Act. Do not use this application if you automatically acquired citizenship under amendments to the Citizenship Act that took effect April 17, 2009 or June 11, 2015.

We have had some of our users previously state that they have been able to contact IRCC from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to IRCC (previously CIC). Then you should be transferred to the IRCC Call Centre.

Please note though that some have reported that it did not work for them or that it is no longer working. At the time we checked it seemed to continue to be working.

You may want to give it a try.

Long distance charges will apply.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

I left Canada in 2010 and got married and had two kids. so i have been out of the country for 7 years in which time my Canadian passport has expired. Do I still have citizenship, and if i do how do I go about getting my family up to Canada with me?
