Hi there,

My PR card will be expired on August 13th, 2018, can I still use it to return to Canada from Mexico on May 8th,2018?

Thank you and please advise,

Hello Doris,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

According to several Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre representatives, the PR card is not like a passport.

Unlike a passport, where some countries require at least six months validity, with a PR card, as long as your present PR card is still valid, you should be able to re-enter Canada. As long as it has not expired, you can use it.

There is no limit to how close to the expiry date it can be used.

It is important to keep in mind though that there is no correlation between the expiry date and whether or not you have met your residency requirements. The onus is on each permanent resident to ensure that they have met their residency requirements.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

HI
My issue is somewhat similar i am also waiting for my renewed pr card which i have gave for renew in June 2017 ,now there is urgency to leave Canada for couple of weeks .

I am wondering if i leave is there any inquiry about my personal interview or to collect card in personal , what can happen if i am not there to collect it , but my husband and kids are here in Canada , can they pick on my behalf ?

Is personal interview required if the processing time is exceeds and it takes longer time in getting card processed ,though i was asked for some additional documents which i had provided them in August 2017 ., Do I have to inform CIC that i am leaving Canada.

Thanks
