Hello,

The person in question is currently in Canada but has not fulfilled the requirement of spending 703 days (2 years) in Canada over the past 5 years. Their PR card is set to expire in June and they need to leave the country in November for a week.

Is possible for them to get their PR card renewed before they travel? Or will they lose their PR status because they haven't met the residency requirements?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this person's situation and question.

It is best that you or they contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Call Centre for some information on how to proceed in this type of situation.

Personally identifying information is not required in order to ask a general question.

It is also important that they contact an Lawyer or a reputable, registered Immigration Consultant who is familiar with Canadian immigration issues for some advice.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hi

I am outside Canada. My PR card expired in December 2015 I did not meet the requirements. I have two children ages 6and 9 who were born in Canada. I would like to take them back to Canada to live permanently. The country where we currently reside is becoming increasingly dangerous everyday. My husband and I have to do what's best for them.

Your advice and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

In terms of leaving Canada, you can find some helpful information in this I need to leave Canada and I do not have a permanent resident card. Can I later return to Canada without a PR card? question on the Immigration,Refugees and Citizenship Canada Help Centre section.

You mentioned that your PR card has expired.

It is important to note that if you decide to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) at the nearest Canadian Visa Office, since you have not met your residency requirements, starting this process may also start the process to determine whether or not you have lost your PR status.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
