Good day,
I'm a Canadian citizen by birth and my parents are citizens as well. We currently do not live there but plan to migrate back to Canada in the next year, since we left when I was just 6, and get jobs. I've been going to the University of the West Indies and will be applying as a transfer student to Canadian universities. Will I be eligible considering my high school qualifications are from the Caribbean and given that neither me or my parents have worked in Canada for years?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You may be able to find some helpful information in our Settlement.Org Who is eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)? article.

You must meet certain requirements to be considered a resident of Ontario for OSAP purposes.

If you do not meet OSAP's Ontario residency requirements you may still be eligible. You may have to provide a detailed explanation in your History of Canadian Residency form and submit the required documents that support your residency.

You mentioned that you plan to move back to Canada next year. In that case, you may need to use a more updated form that should be available at that time.

In that case you may need to use the OSAP Search Portal in order to find the appropriate form for the appropriate academic year.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hi,

I currently live in Alberta but will be moving to Ontario for school in September 2019. Am I eligible for OSAP considering I finished a two-year program in Ontario before moving to Alberta?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this information.

You must meet certain requirements to be considered a resident of Ontario for OSAP purposes. You may also be eligible if your spouse or parent(s) meet certain residency requirements.

If you have lived in another province, you must contact that province's student assistance program.

You may also want to try and contact the Student Financial Assistance Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The general inquiry telephone service is available Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Eastern Standard Time)
• Telephone: 807-343-7260.
• Toll-free in North America: 1-877-OSAP-411 or 1-877-672-7411
• TTY: 1-800-465-3958

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
