Locks on doors in my rental unit

Having locks on my room and balcony doors is it legal i should also mention that i live in a housing property and the property Maintenance people have recently drilled out both door locks and replaced them with ones that don't have locks i asked them why i can't have locks on doors that are in my unit and they just said because you cant
