Hello

I am looking tor some answers after moving to Norway with my boyfriend. I have lived in Ontario all my life and decided to move to Norway after the falling in love and moving trick! I have been out of Ontario since last August and now want to return back. I never realised how lucky we as Canadians are after living in a socialist country. I am disabled and am in need of housing in a geared to rent seniors apt or something similar. I also dont know if I am eligible for any kind of assistance medically because I have been out of the country for over 200 days. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us. If you're in Ontario and looking for accessible housing, we recommend that you connect with housing services near you. Community agencies that provide housing assistance services will be able to support you in finding suitable accommodation for the short-term and long-term.

You may want to contact 211 and speak to a Community Resource Navigator, they may be able to refer you to services in your area. 211 Ontario is a free, confidential service. Their phone service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Here is a link to their live chat if you prefer to communicate online: https://211ontario.ca/chat/. Their live chat service is available Monday to Friday from 7am-9pm ET.

With regards to accessing health services, part of meeting the OHIP eligibility criteria includes being physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period. There are exceptions made for folks whose circumstances warrant an extended absence. You may want to contact the OHIP Info-Line at 1-807-475-1300 for more information.

You may also find helpful information in the Settlement.Org articles, How can I look for rental housing? If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post them here.

We hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,
Your Settlement.Org Team
