Hello and welcome to our discussion section focusing on Immigration and Citizenship.

We welcome your questions and observations about becoming a new immigrant to Canada. Use this section to ask questions about these areas:
  • Permanent Residents

  • Government in Canada

  • Permanent Residency status and obligations

  • Re-entering Canada after long absences

  • Replacing immigration and other official documents

  • Where to go for settlement help in your community
Please note that we will not answer questions about how to immigrate to Canada. This includes questions about immigration applications such as Independent Class (i.e. Skilled Workers), Visitor or Study Visas, Work Permits or Refugee Claims.

Questions about Citizenship and Sponsorship should be posted in the relevant Discussion area topic.

Our focus in this part of the Discussion area is on those who are in process of immigration (i.e. have received their immigration visa and will be landing in Canada soon) and those who have already arrived in Ontario and are in the process of settling.

We apologize to those who wish to ask questions about the immigration process, but we simply do not have the resources to attend to your needs.

You can find information about immigrating to Canada, including application forms and guides on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html

You can ask your questions in the immigration newsgroup found here:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&safe=off&group=misc.immigration.canada

(NOTE: This is an informal forum and we are not responsible for any advice or information you follow there.)

Hello and welcome to our discussion section focusing on the Permanent Resident Card.

We have received many questions and concerns about the Permanent Resident (PR) Card in our Immigration and Citizenship topic area. We have decided to create a PR Card topic to focus on this issue. We have moved previous discussions about the PR Card into this new topic area.

We welcome your questions and observations about the PR Card. Use this section to ask questions about these areas:

  • How to apply

  • When to apply

  • Travel

  • What to do if you're outside Canada

Please note that we will not be answering questions about how to immigrate to Canada. Our focus is on how to settle in Ontario. While we can give some information about the immigration process, we are not immigration consultants and will not be able to tell you how to successfully immigrate.

We can help you find organizations in your city that offer these services.

There are other web sites where you can ask these questions. Here is one:

Hello Ralph,

Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us. We can appreciate that you would be very concerned about this.

We have found this information on the The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Website in the Confidentiality of Personal Health Information section.

Here are some excerpts,

Disclosure of personal health information

A physician can only disclose his or her patient’s personal health information:

- when he or she has the patient’s or substitute decision-maker’s consent and it is necessary for a lawful purpose;

- where it is permitted under legislation, without the patient’s or substitute decision-maker’s consent; or

- where it is required by law.

and

Professional Misconduct

Under the regulations to the Medicine Act, 1991, it is an act of professional misconduct for a physician to:

“[give] information concerning the condition of a patient or any services rendered to a patient to a person other than the patient or his or her authorized representative except with the consent of the patient or his or her authorized representative or as required by law.” 15

We suggest that you may want to contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario directly:

Re-schedule Citizenship Test or Miss it?

Moderator

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation with us.

You can find some information on what your options are on the CIC Website in the Help Centre - FAQs section.

Here is an excerpt,

Can I reschedule my citizenship test if I cannot attend it?

Yes. If you are not available on the date and time of your citizenship test, contact the Call Centre. We will schedule your test on a different date.

If you do not attend the test, you must contact the Call Centre within 60 days of the test date. Tell us why you did not attend the test. We will schedule your test on a different date if you have a valid reason. If you do not contact CIC within 60 days after missing the test, we will close your application. You will have to apply for citizenship again.

This situation applies to both the first time you write the citizenship test and the re-test if you failed the written test the first time.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
