COPR/Visa Name Error - Will Be Corrected at POE?

Hi all,

I saw many name correction posts in this thread and I have a similar query. I would really appreciate it if anyone can clarify.
I got my passport back today from VFS. In the counterfoil, my first name/given name is missing the last letter but in the CoPR document it is correct.

I have a pretty long name. first name/given name - 12 characters
last name/surname - 22 characters + 1 space
no middle name

I assumed that it might be a space issue and hence my given name is truncated (only last letter is missing).
Can anyone clarify?
I just need to know if I need to contact Visa Office New Delhi about this or is it not needed..

Thanks a lot in advace!

1. No you don't have to contact Delhi. The name is truncated because of the length, but the complete name will be in the system.

Hello Pari,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be very concerned about this situation.

According to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship website,

Permanent residents (PR) of Canada must carry and present their valid PR card or permanent resident travel document (PRTD) when boarding a flight to Canada, or travelling to Canada on any other commercial carrier. If you do not carry your PR card or PRTD, you may not be able to board your flight, train, bus or boat to Canada.

Regarding your second question, unfortunately, when travelling by commercial vehicle: airplane, bus, train or boat it is not possible to use those documents or IDs to try and enter Canada.

You may want to contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Call Centre directly to find out what your options are in this type of situation.

You can also find some other information regarding additional options and other documents you can use if you choose to enter Canada by private vehicle on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship website in the I need to leave Canada and I do not have a permanent resident card. Can I later return to Canada without a PR card? section.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

1. The OP has only 3 options. Hope that the PR card arrives before s/he leaves or arrives while away and someone at his home address couriers to Germany.
2. Obtain a PR Travel document in Germany by making an application through VFS in either Dusseldorf or Berlin, see: http://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/germany/
3. Change the flight to a US destination near the border and enter using his CORP and expired PR card via private transportation.

Divorcing Someone I Sponsored

Hi Settlement.Org,

I am divorcing a person that I sponsored. She never came to Canada after receiving her Permanent Residence Card. I have her card. I have read this page, but it is not applicable to my situation. I understand I am responsible for her financially if she enters Canada.

A few questions:

a) Who do I have to tell to inform them of our marriage status change?

I also read that there is a rule in which you cannot sponsor another person for 5 years, if they have entered Canada. My sponsored person never entered Canada except prior to receiving her PR card.

b) Do I have to wait 5 years before sponsoring someone else? Is that 5 years from time of application or from receipt of PR Card?

Thank you in advance and happy December!

Ravi

1. If you sponsored spouse was issued a PR card, then she "landed". So you can't sponsor another spouse for 3 years after her date of "landing"

1. You said that you have her PR card. So it means that she "landed", unless you are mistaking her Confirmation of PR (it is a paper document) for the card, which is wallet sized with a photo.

2.
Who can’t become a sponsor You can’t be a sponsor if you:
  • have failed to pay:
    • an immigration loan
    • a performance bond
    • family support payments
  • have failed to provide for the basic needs of a previously-sponsored relative who received social assistance
  • are under a removal order
  • are in a penitentiary, jail, reformatory or prison
  • receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability
  • are still going through the process of bankruptcy (undischarged bankruptcy)
  • were sponsored by a spouse or partner and you became a permanent resident less than five years ago
  • sponsored a previous spouse or partner and three years have not passed since this person became a permanent resident
  • have already applied to sponsor your current spouse, partner or child and a decision on your application hasn’t been made yet
  • were convicted of a violent or sexual offence, or an offence that caused bodily harm to a relative—or you attempted or threatened to commit any of these offences

Two weeks back one of my family had a family argument and their son called police.

The police came and discussed with the family and helped the members to settle down on their argument.

Later the police mentioned that they will make a report on the incident as they had to visit the place.

Is there any risk to their citizenship application which is due sometime next year due to this incident.

Please let us know and we will wait for your reply.

1. No, as long as there were no charges.

Here.i will take all responsibilities for them

As me and my husband both work.i have a job and my husband is self employed..

1. Basically No. You can't sponsor your sister as you have relatives in Canada (i.e. husband & children)
2. Your sister would have to qualify on her own under either Express Entry or one of the Provincial Nominations Programs.

Definition of Sibling for express entry

Hi All,

I have a query i want to claim 15 CRS Sibling points for my Sister who was adopted by my uncle. As per definition of Sibling available on CIC i think i am eligible as she is biological child of my parents.. can anyone comment on this from Legal Perspective

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/mandate/policies-operational-instructions-agreements/ministerial-instructions/express-entry-application-management-system.html

Points for sibling in Canada31 (1) Fifteen points may be assigned to a foreign national if either they or their accompanying spouse or common-law partner has at least one sibling who is
  • (a) 18 years or older;
  • (b) a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; and
  • (c) living in Canada.
Clarification(2) For the purpose of subsection (1), a sibling of a foreign national or of the foreign national’s accompanying spouse or common-law partner is the biological or adoptive child of
  • (a) their father or their mother;
  • (b) their father’s or mother’s spouse; or
  • (c) their father’s or mother’s common-law partner.

1. As your sister was adopted, her connection to her birth family was severed, so she is no longer considered a sibling.

Dear Sir,
I am currently a PR of Canada I have received the PR Status on January 2017.My child was born in Canada in July 2018 so the child is a citizen by birth. As my mother is currently not doing well back in her home country and there is no one to look after her I travel back and forth to Canada and my child travels with me as well. As per CIC Website in order to maintain PR I would have to stay in Canada for 2 years out of 5 years period.
My question is as my child is a Canadian citizen who stays with me outside Canada, are my days outside Canada considered with in that 2 years in order to maintain the PR.

Thanks

1. No, days accompanying a CC child are not counted for meeting your Residency Obligations.

1. No, an ETA allows a visa exempt passport holder to board a flight to Canada.
2. A TRP is a Temporary Resident Permit, only issued to persons inadmissible to Canada.

3. No, to get a SIN, if you are a non resident, you must be either a student or a work permit holder.

Dear Anna, I have a similar question reguarding my return to Canada. i am outside of Canada and have been for a period of time and now am planning my return. I do not want trouble when i plan my return. i checked the website listed above and it said that if a person like my self has been a PR holder for more that five years then the five year period is calculated on a rolling basis. I am a bit confused what that means. Does that mean previous five years from the date I return to Canada.? I have been a PR holder from October 22 2005. I was planning to return to Canada this year around April 2019. What is the 5 year period i should consider? I would appreciate a reply. Samita

1. If you intend to return in April 2019, the 5 year period is from April 2014, so you have to have lived in Canada for 2 years in that period to maintain your residency obligation.

1. Yes as long as you meet the Low Income Cut Off + 30 % for the number of persons, (if you have no children it would be 6)
2. Note, when the PGP program opens, you will have to submit 2 Expressions of Interest, note the program is first come first serve and opens See: http://tinyurl.com/y7yeygbf

Dear Team

I am planning to do my short landing in 2 months time.

I have already read the examples of forms in which POF should be shown while landing.

But please could you guide if International debit card with Bank Statement will be sufficient as POF?

And is Term deposit certificates acceptable as POF on landing?

Please advise.

Thanks

Ashy

1. No, a debit card is not proof of funds.

2. A bank statement (no older than a week or so) and Term deposits would be sufficient.
