Hello Anna,

your citizenship eligibility page states the following:

In order to apply for Canadian citizenship you must:
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Provide proof that you know how to speak and write in 1 of Canada's official languages (either English or French)
  • Be a Permanent Resident (PR)
  • Have lived in Canada as a PR for at least 3 years out of the 5 years before you apply
  • Have filed your taxes for at least 3 years during the last 5 years and any income tax you may owe must be paid
  • Apply for citizenship from within Canada

THe last bullet point suggests that one has to apply for citizenship from within Canada. Since the reply and the above information is in conflict can you please recheck and advise what is the correct position?

thanks

Minish

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We have contacted some Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Call Centre Representatives.

They mentioned that it is not likely a problem if you have met the residency requirements.

However, it is important that you be aware of any correspondence that you may be receiving regarding test and oath dates.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your questions with us.

We have had one of our legal researchers look into this information and based on this we have updated our Settlement.Org How do I apply for Canadian Citizenship? article.

Here is an excerpt of our updated information,

Mail your application to the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. If you are applying from outside Canada or the United States, submit your application to your closest Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate.

You can find this information on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website in the For applicants living outside Canada and the United States section.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
