Proof of Funds and Documents Required

Hi,
I am planning to create my Express Entry profile but I am having second thoughts because as of now, I don't have the required 'proof of funds' for our family (me, wife, and 2 kids). As I read in the CIC, proof of funds are mandatory, but 'when applicable'.. My question is:
1. If ever I get an Invitation to Apply (ITA), will they immediately look for the required total amount for proof of funds?
I am currently working in Saudi Arabia for 10 years now, and my end-of-service benefits (ESB) will cover the requirement for proof of funds. However, if my understanding is correct, I cannot make use of this as a 'proof of fund'.. can you somebody confirm / advise?
