Add a New Tenant to Existing Lease - Possible?

So my issue is a bit extreme and I'm not certain what to do. To keep a long story short, my girlfriend has a very rocky relationship with her family. Very. There is a very good chance one side or the other will finally snap and she will be thrown out. If that happens I'm planning on having her move in with me to save her having to find an apartment in this city. But, I just moved myself and the lease I signed said I am not allowed to have another tenant in my building. Now I'm not certain what my rights are here, especially considering the situation.
Can I simply allow her to stay and ignore that provision?
If not, would I have a reasonable chance at renegotiating my lease?
It would be different if she had family here but everyone she knows lives in the US or Europe so she'd have nowhere to go. I just want to know what I can or can't do in this situation.
To answer the questions asked before posting, I'm a citizen while she is not, she is British. As well, I've done nothing yet simply because it's only the last week where the potential for her to be thrown out has become real. I've considered speaking to a representative of the company but I don't want to get ahead of myself here either.
