HI there
I would really appreciate your answer to my question, please.
I moved to Canada in November,1999.
I became a Permanent Resident of Canada in December,2008.
I have my valid PR card that just got renewed for 5 yrs.
I got married to a Canadian Citizen in February, 2014.
I meet all residency requirements as I only left Canada for 18 days between 1999 and beginning of 2014.

However, here is where it gets tricky:

My then-fiancee and I left Canada in January 2014 for his work.
We got married in February 2014 also outside of Canada.
I will not lose my residency requirement for PR card.

My question is:
Can I apply for Canadian Citizenship while living outside of Canada? (I'd be willing to come home any time necessary)

IF I cannot apply from outside of Canada, what do I need to do to apply? Can I go home, sign the citizenship paper and leave Canada again with my husband? Is that acceptable? Plus I would come home any time they would require me to.

I met the residency requirement for Canadian Citizenship as well.

Thank you very much

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation in such detail and your questions.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre, they stated that it is not possible to apply for citizenship while living outside Canada.

We suggest that you confirm this information for yourself by contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada or the nearest Canadian Visa Office.

We have had some of our users previously state that they have been able to contact CIC from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to CIC. Once you choose the option for CIC, wait until you hear the welcome to Citizenship and Immigration Canada message and wait to be connected to the CIC Call Centre.

Please note though that some have reported that it did not work for them. We hope that it is possible for you to get through.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
