I'll be applying for PR Card renewal shortly.
Should I send my expired PR Card with the application along with other documents?

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your question with us.
According to the CIC Applying for a Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) - Initial application, replacement or renewal (IMM 5445) Guide,
The application package includes the instruction guide and all the forms you need to fill out.
Use the guide to help you fill out the forms properly. If your application is incomplete or missing information, we will return it to you.
We cannot refund the fee to process your form. Make sure that you are eligible before you apply.
Include these documents when you apply:
-your PR card (if your card has expired or if the information on it is out of date or incorrect),
a copy of: -your valid passport or travel document, or -a copy of the passport or travel document you held at the time you became a permanent resident
Photocopies must be clear or we will send your application back to you.
According to the guide, if your card is expired, you should include it in your application.
You may want to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Anna,
A little correction in the statement above. If we look at the PR Card Renewal Guide. If we look at "Step 1: Gather documents" CIC has mentioned the following direction.
"Your PR Card
If you are applying to renew your present card, you should retain it until you receive your new card. If you are applying to replace a damaged card, send the damaged card with your application. "
It seems they only require the PR card if it is damaged.

Hello,
Thank you for that update.
It is true, the the CIC Applying for a Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) - Initial application, replacement or renewal (IMM 5445) Guide states,
Your PR Card
If you are applying to renew your present card, you should retain it until you receive your new card. If you are applying to replace a damaged card, send the damaged card with your application.
If you are asked to present yourself at a local CIC office, you must bring with you the previous card and the original documents of the copies you have included with your application. You will be asked to destroy your previous card once you receive the new one.
Format: Original
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
