Basically I was wondering if it's possible to sponsor a spouse if I currently don't have a job.I am a Canadian citizen and we have been married for 5 months.
I am currently a full time Graduate student on a $80,000 scholarship, but can I count that as income?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be concerned about your financial situation.

To sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, the sponsor does not have to meet a minimum income requirement.

However, the sponsor cannot be receiving social assistance or be an undeclared bankrupt. You may also need to address in your application how your spouse will be able to be supported.

You can find information on eligibility in our Settlement.Org How do I sponsor a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, or dependent child living outside of Canada? article.

You may also want to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
