Hello C. Mulligan,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

It is true that the OHIP requirements are a bit confusing.

You can find some clear and helpful information in our Settlement.Org Who is eligible for OHIP? article.

Here is one of the requirements found in the article,

You have a work permit that is valid for at least 6 months. You also have a formal agreement to work full-time for an employer in Ontario. The agreement states the employer's name, your occupation, and states that you will be working for at least 6 consecutive months.

Ministry of Health staff can help you determine if you are eligible for Ontario health coverage. Call the ministry INFOline:

In Ontario, toll-free: 1-800-268-1154
In Toronto: 416-314-5518
TTY: 1-800-387-5559

Hours of operation: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

You can also email [email protected]

Since you mentioned that you are pregnant. You can find some other information and services for your pregnancy in our Settlement.Org I am pregnant. Where can I find services? and I am pregnant and don't have OHIP. What health care can I get? articles.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
