This is asked for a friend.
She is coming to Queen's university this summer. She is now 17 years old (Jan 2015).
She would like to rent a flat during her study at Queens.
However, she will not have her parents, nor any guardians with her.
So we want to know if she can rent a flat along, un-supervised, regard to her age?
As more information, this girl is from oversea, not being a Canadian.
And all her relative\legal guardians will not be in Canada with her.
Thank you very much.

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your friend's situation and question with us.
It is great that you are looking into this information on her behalf and before she arrives.
According to the Ontario Human Rights Commission,
You cannot be refused an apartment, harassed by a housing provider or other tenants, or otherwise treated unfairly because of your:
[...]
- age, including people who are 16 or 17 years old and no longer living with their parents
You can also find some additional information in this How do I rent an Apartment? article on our NewYouth.ca website.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
