hi im am from the uk not yet a PR in canada.

I am married to a Canadian with 1 child.. Ive been back and forth for the past almost 10 yrs

we looked into spouse applcation but she is on social assistance but thinking about gpoing on ODSP because she has scoliosis and finds it hard to lift heavy stuff..

We looked into spouse application if she worked for an employer and off the S.A

How does it work for ODSP?

Is it still the same ropes as if she was worlking or is it slightly different?

please id like to get ur thoughts in this situation, thank you

Hello Ben,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You and your spouse can find some information on the CIC Website in the Guide 3900 - Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada guide.

It states,

You may NOT sponsor if you…

[...]
-receive social assistance for a reason other than disability,

It may be helpful if your spouse contacts the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly for information specific to your situation.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
