Hi there.
I am so confused with OHIP eligibility after being away for a long time. I read from Ministry of Health but I am still confused.
Please help me understand by giving you my background:
- I stayed in Canada for 410 days after I established permanent residence in Canada, i.e. landed in Ontario March 31, 2013, then went back to my home country on May 16, 2014 so 410 days stay.
- I am coming back to Ontario, Canada on Sept 25, 2015, in other words 497 days away from Canada
QUESTION -
Do I have OHIP coverage when I come back on Sept 25, 2015?
Thank you.

No - you won't have OHIP coverage when you return to Canada. To maintain OHIP coverage you must be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period. Since you don't meet this requirement, you will have to wait for three months after your return to Canada before you will once again qualify for OHIP coverage.
