Can I Purchase Private Insurance in Canada?

Does anyone have any good recommendations for private health care providers?
I've read the articles here and been to https://www.olhi.ca/insurance-finder/ but that site is not helpful at all.
Can you actually buy normal health care in Canada or do you have to buy "expat insurance" from other company's(mostly in Europe).
I'm not sure why this is so difficult.

If you are referring to private health insurance for Canadian Citizens or permanent residents returning to Canada, according to the OLHI, it is necessary to call around to some of the insurance providers in order to find out which ones can provide this type of insurance.
We are sorry that we do not have specific information regarding this either.
