Tax when Leaving Canada

Hi. I understand you should file the final tax when you leave Canada. Does that mean you should file it in a normal schedule, i.e. by April 30, 2015 even if you have left in March 2014 ? In that case, you didn't have to inform Revenue Canada of your departure until April next year, did you?
Having said that, you don't have to file if you owe no tax, do you? For example, if you have no income in 2014 until you left in March, there is no need to file, so you simply have to inform Revenue Canada of your departure without filing tax? In such case, what timing and how to inform?
Would you please advise? I will appreciate your help. Thanks.
