I signed as a guarantor for a one year lease in agreement that it would only be the one year. I received a call from a collector looking for 3 months rent and I was to pay. I inform them that the lease was up 6 months ago and I was not responsible. They told me that the lease auto renews and that I would still be liable. I was not informed of any action taken to the tenant nor receive any documentation. They expect that I be responsible for them for as long as they live at this residence. And since neither of the tenants have an income they expect me to pay for their outstanding debt. Does a guarantor have right to defend themselves as I was unaware of this situation and they are adding a record to my credit.
