I am a Canadian Citizen residing in Canada . I am in ON to be precise.

My wife is in Delhi, India . She is Indian citizen. She is a Cancer Survivor. She is FREE from Cancer for the last 8 years. No recurrence or relapse has happened in the last 8 years.

She got the Cancer in her early 20 's . Now she is in her early 30's . The Cancer from which she is fully cured is HODGKINS LYMPHOMA. The prognosis so far looks very good.

Will there be any problem sponsoring her to Canada as a spouse ? Will there be any issues in her Medical ? Will OHIP ( ON Health Plan ) have any issues ?

Will Medical Inadmissibility be an issue for sponsoring a spouse, who is a Cancer survivor ? Has anyone else been in the same situation as me and successfully sponsored their spouse, with prior history of Cancer ?

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your wife's situation with us.

We are glad to hear that she is fully cured and that that prognosis looks very good.

We hope that others who may have had a similar situation, share their experiences and suggestions with you.

In terms of medical inadmissibility, you can find some details on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

Here is an excerpt,

Exemptions from inadmissibility on grounds of excessive demand

As per paragraphs R24, R117(g) and R139(4), excessive demand determinations under A38(1)(c) do not apply to:

-spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
-a dependent child (including an adopted a child) of the sponsor, or of the sponsor’s spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner;
-Convention Refugees;
-protected persons.

Although such individuals must undertake a full immigration medical examination, they are not assessed for excessive demand.

If you have any other questions regarding sponsorship, you may want to call the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre directly.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
