Hi,

I landed in Canada last year and stayed for only three months. I haven't permanently moved to Canada yet. I would like to know if I have to file any taxes or do I do that only when I permanently reside there?

Thank you

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some detailed information regarding whether or not you are required to file a tax return in our Settlement.Org Do I have to file a tax return? article.

Here is an excerpt,

You have to file a return if you are a resident of Canada for tax purposes and you owe tax or want to receive a refund.

Residency for Tax Purposes

Canadian residency for tax purposes is not the same as residency for immigration purposes.

This can be a confusing process. If you need more information or help, contact the CRA or a settlement agency. To find help in your area, go to Services Near Me.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
