I have plans to travel to the U.S. But, 14 months back, i got a DUI. Now that, DUI falls in criminal law, I was thinking if it effects my travel plans. I read it in a lawyers' blog , people with a criminal record may be refused entry to the U.S. I'd be able to travel only after waiver from the Ministry. Now the question is , is it okay since Drink and drive is not as big an offence, at least that's what I think.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us.

As you may have noticed, the Settlement.Org website is mainly about settling in and living in Ontario. Therefore, you may not find a great deal of information related to entering the United States.

However, you can find some information regarding this specific topic on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.

Here is an excerpt,

A single DUI conviction is not grounds to deny entry into the U.S. However, multiple DUI convictions or a DUI conviction in combination with other misdemeanor offenses can make a person inadmissible and require a waiver prior to entering the United States.U.S. Customs and Border Protection

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
