Hi,

I've recently activated my Permanent Residency status and haven't received my PR card yet.

I will be travelling abroad soon,

Do you know if I can mail my application for travel document and passport to the closest Visa office from Canada?

I am in British Columbia, the closest visa office is in Los Angeles.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

According to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website,
Determine your eligibility

You can apply for a permanent resident travel document if you:

  • are a permanent resident,
  • do not have a valid PR card showing your PR status,
  • are outside Canada, and
  • will return to Canada by airplane, boat, train or bus.

and

to find out where to submit your application, you need to select the country you will be applying from (you can choose your country of nationality or the country where you have been legally admitted.

As you can see, it states that you can apply for a permanent resident travel document if you are outside Canada.

You may want to contact the IRCC Call Centre for further clarification.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
