Hi,

We are new immigrants and yet to arrive to Canada for which i have following queries.

1. I m planning a 15 to 20 day trip to Canada. Is it possible to receive your PR card post arrival in this time?

2. Post landing in Canada, Is there a way i can ensure that PR card is issued to us in 15-20 days time? If yes then what is the process and what are the requirements for the same.

3. We have just given our passport for PRTD stamping to VFS. How can i request for multiple entry PRTD?

Pl respond asap.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Regarding your questions,

1. I m planning a 15 to 20 day trip to Canada. Is it possible to receive your PR card post arrival in this time?

2. Post landing in Canada, Is there a way i can ensure that PR card is issued to us in 15-20 days time? If yes then what is the process and what are the requirements for the same.

All newly arriving immigrants will receive the PR Card as part of the immigration process.Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will mail your PR Card to you, after the information and photograph on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence document is confirmed by a CIC official when you arrive in Canada.

You can find the processing times for new PR cards on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website in the Check application processing times section.

It states that it is currently taking 58 days to process a new PR card.

Regarding your third question,

3. We have just given our passport for PRTD stamping to VFS. How can i request for multiple entry PRTD?

You can find some information on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website in the Applying for a travel document (permanent resident abroad) (IMM 5529) - What Happens Next section.

Here is an excerpt,

Travel document counterfoils are normally issued for a single entry to Canada. If you meet the residency obligation but are residing outside of Canada on a long-term basis (for example, if you are a permanent resident accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse), you may want to request a long-term multiple entry travel document. To do so, you should include a cover letter explaining your circumstances and requesting a multiple entry travel document. These can be issued for up to five years but cannot extend beyond the expiry date of your passport.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
