Hi All,

I applied for a renewal of my PR card and received an email saying its going for a Secondary Review. I have lived in Ottawa since 2011.

I Landed in Feb 2011 and have only been out of Canada for a total of 18 days until now.

Between Nov 2012 and Oct 2015 where I left Canada for a few days on 3 occasions to visit my parents in the UK.

In the renewal form IMM5444 For question 21, the period to be assessed should I put the dates NOV 2012 - OCT 2015 instead of a 5 year period. I thought the question was asking which period of dates do they need to assess and verify that I was out of Canada.

Could this be the reason its gone for a secondary review?

I have no Criminal record, not miss used my PR card or anything that would cause concern. Being outside Canada for a total of 18 days in 5.5 years I thought this would be pretty straight forward. I submitted my past 4 NOA's showing I was working since 2011.

I've called the Call center and all they have ever told me was they cant help me fill in the form (even though i told them its already submitted) and to wait and see what they come up with after the secondary review.

Its quite frustrating because when you fill in the form they do say that you have understood the questions asked and sought answers for anything you are unclear about when you sign it. Whenever I sought help they told me they cant answer.

Ultimately my 3 questions are:

1) Could a wrong assessment period for Question 21 have caused this?
2) If the wrong assessment period in Question 21 is put in, would they automatically take the past 5 years as a default?
3) Is it worth submitting a Case Specific Inquiry form online to inform them of this?

Thanks for reading and any insight to this will be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us.

We can appreciate how frustrating this situation is.

We apologize, unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a definitive response regarding what the possible reason for the secondary review is.

It could be something in your application or it could simply have been randomly selected.

You may want to try and call the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre directly again to see if they can provide you with some information specific to your application.

We hope that others who have experienced this situation or are familiar with this process can share some of their comments and suggestions with you.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
