Hi,

I am on disability ODSP

I recently made a trip outside of Canada and met my girlfriend while visiting my ill grandfather.

I have since returned to Ottawa Ontario Canada.

My relationship with my girlfriend has grown since then as well.

Now we want to get married and I am thinking of going back to see her and get married.

The question is how will I do that and am I eligible to sponsor my future wife when I am on ODSP.

I have checked the government website for sponsorship but there is a lot of things I do not understand like procedures and how to fill out the forms correctly if I am eligible to sponsor her.

I find it quit confusing with these big words.

What should I do or where should go to get help for guidance on filling out the forms the proper way, doing the procedures correctly, because I do not want to make a mistake and risk refusal from the government.

Where can I get help and start the process

please and thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You can find some information on the CIC Website in the Guide 3900 - Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada guide.

It states,

You may NOT sponsor if you…

[...]-receive social assistance for a reason other than disability,

So as you can see it states that you may not sponsor if you receive social assistance for a reason other than disability.

Unfortunately, it is not likely you will find anywhere that provides free assistance with this type of form filling.

In terms of completing the application forms, you may want to contact an immigration consultant or a lawyer who is familiar with Canadian immigration applications. Unfortunately, there is likely a cost for this type of service.

It may be helpful if you contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre directly to see if they can provide any additional information specific to your situation.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
