Hi,
I received Canada PR in May 2016 and I am travelling to Canada in September
I have Indian Driving Licence for the past 13 years. The Driving Licence is in English.
1) For applying Driving License (Type G), do i need International Driving permit / License or will my Indian driving licence suffice.
2) Whom or which office should i approach in Tamil Nadu (Chennai), India to get the Driving History which is required in Ontario to directly qualify for the (Type - G) Licence.
3) Coming as PR holder to Canada, Can i drive car from day 1 after landing in Canada? Will my Indian driving licence valid till i apply for the Ontario driving licence (Maximum of 2 months)?
Appreciate your help

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us.
Regarding your first question,
1) For applying Driving License (Type G), do i need International Driving permit / License or will my Indian driving licence suffice.
No you do not need an International Driver's Permit in order to apply for an Ontario Driver's Licence. You can find some detailed information on the steps you need to take in order to get one in our Settlement.Org I have a driver's licence from another country. How do I get an Ontario driver's licence? article.
Regarding your second question,
2) Whom or which office should i approach in Tamil Nadu (Chennai), India to get the Driving History which is required in Ontario to directly qualify for the (Type - G) Licence.
In terms of this process you may want to contact the DriveTest Centre directly at 1-800-489-8450.
Regarding your third question,
3) Coming as PR holder to Canada, Can i drive car from day 1 after landing in Canada? Will my Indian driving licence valid till i apply for the Ontario driving licence (Maximum of 2 months)?
If you plan on living in Ontario - that is, you will be a permanent resident living in Ontario - you need to get an Ontario driver's licence within 60 days of moving to Ontario.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
