Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Once you arrive in Ontario you may want to contact the nearest Housing Help centre for some assistance with finding housing that is suitable for you.

You may also want to look into subsidized housing. You can find some information in our Settlement.Org How can I apply for subsidized housing? article.

It is important to note that there are waiting lists for subsidized housing across Ontario. In some areas, the waiting list is more than 10 years. In other places the wait is shorter.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hi!

We are sponsored by our son in coming to Canada. We landed last 2013. We have no income. We are currently staying with my son and family. However, my children back in our country wish to purchase a condo for us. It will not entail any bank loan. My questions are
:...can we have the property under our name?
.... if it will be under our name, it will be an asset. Question.... will it affect our future Old Age Pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement ( I understand that we have to be here in Canada for at least 10 years to avail of Old Age and GIS).

Will greatly appreciate your reply and any suggestions.

Best regards

For your second question, I don't think it would affect you according to the eligibility requirements for Old Age Pension and GIS found here since it wouldn't affect your income unless you plan to rent it out. As to the first, I can't find any information on that. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you.
