My son was born outside Canada from Canadian citizen parents. Now we are back to Canada, how we can obtain a SIN for him. He is now 11 years old. Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some detailed information on the Service Canada website in the Applying for your Social Insurance Number... Fast, simple, secure! section.

Here is an excerpt,

Parents or legal guardians can apply for a SIN on behalf of a minor child. Children who are 12 years of age or older can apply for their own SINs. If you are applying on behalf of a child in-person at a Service Canada point of service, you must provide:

-the child's original proof-of-identity documents;
-your own SIN or original document if you are applying in-person. If you were never issued a SIN and/or are applying by mail, you must provide your -original proof-of-identity documents;

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
