Hi,

I am moving permanently to Ontario from outside Canada.

Given that there is a 3 months wait time for OHIP,

I am planning to apply for OHIP as soon as I arrive.

I know that one of the application requirements is a document that displays the name and current home address.

However, I plan to stay the first two months in an extended stay hotel until I find a place to rent.

What should I do in this case?

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

It is true that the Proof of Residency document must be a document that has your name and current home address. This document confirms that your principal home is in Ontario.

Once you arrive, it may be best to get official information about OHIP eligibility and application and to see if there are any alternative options available specific to your situation by contacting Service Ontario:

In Canada: 1-800-268-1154
TTY: 1-800-387-5559

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
