Hi,

I am a permanent resident staying in Ontario since Oct'16.

I have already received my OHIP card.

However, my daughter was born outside Canada and I am sponsoring her PR application.

She will be moving with me in couple of months time.

Will she be eligible for OHIP from the day she lands or will she have to wait 90 days for the same.

In the meanwhile, how can I ensure her vaccination is not affected because of this?

Also, could you let me know what are steps to be followed to get her vaccinations?

Thanks,
Anand

Hello Anand,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this information and which options are available for your daughter.

Unfortunately, the 3-month waiting period for OHIP will apply to your daughter.

You may want to look into some options for her during that 3-month waiting time in our Settlement.Org How can I pay for health care in my first 3 months in Ontario, or if I don't have OHIP? article.

In terms of her vaccinations, some public health units give vaccines for free, even if you do not have a Health Card (OHIP).

You may want to contact the nearest public health unit for some information and advice regarding the steps you can take.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
