Hello
I would like to marry my fiance and he lives in the dominican republic.I am on ODSP.
I was looking on the Government website and if i read correct it said that i need to earn $24,500 in one year to sponsor him. I don't get that amount a year from ODSP.
Does that mean I need to get a job and make the other $10,000. Thats a little hard because ODSP claws 50% of my money after $200 To make $1300 is just crazy to me,thats full time work.If could do that, I wouldn't be on ODSP.
Does that mean I cannot get married?
This dosent seem fair =(

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.
We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this situation.
For sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child, you do not have to meet an income level requirement. The income level requirement only applies to sponsorship of parents and grandparents.
You can find some information on the CIC Website in the Guide 3900 - Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada guide.
It states,
You may NOT sponsor if you…
[...]-receive social assistance for a reason other than disability,
So as you can see it states that you may not sponsor if you receive social assistance for a reason other than disability.
It may be helpful if you contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Call Centre directly to see if they can provide any additional information specific to your situation.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
