I'll need to do an unplanned visit to the US for just one day tomorrow to meet a friend but I just found out that my PR card has expired.

I'll be travelling on my own car.

I have my landing paper, a valid ON drivers license etc, credit cards, health cards etc

Will I be able to use the above to re-enter Carnada?

I have read the info on the below pages, but it's still not clear to me if I'll be allowed back in. These links mostly talk about having an expired card while you are outside Canada - but my situation here is that I'm currently in Canada with an expired card, with the need to make a quick visit to the US.

Anyone? Thanks for your help in advance.

Heard this from Citizenship and Immigration Canada help desk:
If you are a permanent resident outside Canada and you are planning on returning to Canada:
Aboard a private vehicle (your own car, rental vehicle etc) :
  • it is not necessary to have the PR card with you,
  • you can use one of the following immigration documents:
    • Record of Landing (IMM 1000), or
    • Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688)
On a commercial carrier (plane, boat, train or bus):

Hi,

Hope you are all enjoying the summer.

I have a question regarding my PR card renewal.

I have applied for my PR card renewal in April 9th 2018 and my PR card got expired in June 18th.

When I was applying for the PR card renewal, I was expecting to get my new card with in 90 days based on the processing times mentioned in CIC website.

Now I understand from CIC website that they are processing application submitted on March 1st only.

Now my situation is that I have to go USA to meet my family in next week end and planned summer vacation with them for 10 days.

Can I go to USA with an expired PR card and can enter back to Canada with that expired PR card.

My kids are Canadian citizensI have all my identifications card like valid SIN card, driving license and health card and all.

Please can you help me with your advice?

I am trying to call CIC and talk with an agent for last one week and not able to connect them.

Thank you

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some information regarding what your options are to enter Canada when you do not have a PR card on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website in the I am outside of Canada and do not have a PR card. How can I return to Canada? section.

Here is an excerpt,

Returning by private vehicle

There are other documents you can use to enter the country.
When you return to Canada, apply for a PR card if you plan to travel outside Canada again.

Some examples of private vehicles include, but are not limited to: a car, truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle that you own, borrow, or rent, and that is not available for public use.

This link contains similar information to what the previous user in this thread (bjoseph) stated in their reply above.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello, I have been denied boarding my plane back to Canada because my PR card has expired in May. I was advised that one option to return is to go through the US and cross the border by car. What documentation will i need to enter Canada, my passport is French. Should i not give my passport an only show my Health card and driver's license that are both issued by Ontario authorities? OR will i get in using my passport and expired PR card?
Before i get ticket and get someone to pick me up, i would like to get some confirmation on this. Any thought son who can give me confirmation? has anyone had a similar experience recently?
Thanks!
