Hello,

we received our CoPR and will be landing in Toronto in May.

Question:

we own a couple of dozens of 1oz silver coins (Canadian Maple Leaf, 5 CAD nominal value) purchased in Germany. Can we bring these with us and how to declare their value ? Are any duties or taxes required or can these be imported duty-free?

Thank you !
Maria and family

Hello Maria and Family,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

You can find some detailed information on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website in the Bringing goods to Canada section.

You can also find some additional and very detailed information on the Canada Border Services Agency website in the Moving or returning to Canada section.

You will note that "private collections of coins, stamps and art" are listed under "Items you can import duty- and tax-free".

For additional information you may want to contact the Border Information Service (BIS).

The Border Information Service (BIS) is an automated telephone service that answers incoming calls and provides general information on CBSA programs, services and initiatives.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
