Hello,
I landed in Canada in March as a PR.

Everything was processed my maiden name up till I landed here.

My PR card is also in my maiden name which I have received. I changed my name in my Indian passport to my married name where we take our husbands first name as our middle name and his last name as our last name per Hindu traditions. But I am traveling to India in December. I have applied for a new PR replacement card following the name change on my Indian passport. I sent the application IM5444 along with copy of my current PR (which is under my maiden name) my marriage license (coming from the US) my copy of my new passport that reflects my name change, and other supporting documents. But those are the main ones.

Can you please provide me if they actually do accept those documents and change the name on the PR without going through any name change certificate which is stated by the Ontario government.

If in case, it doesn’t go through how can I Travel back from India to Canada if my PR card has my maiden name and my passport has my married name. I still have old passport with my maiden name attached to the new one but it is cancelled as I was issued a new passport.

For example: Aaaaa Bbbb cccc is my maiden name. My husband name is Ddddd eeeee fffff so I took his middle name and last name and now my new married name is Aaaaa Dddddd Ffffff. This is just an example.

Please help me with this.

1. If you don't get a new PR card in time, just carry your old PR card, the old passport, the new one and a copy of your marriage certificate which will show the name changes.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You may want to contact the IRCC Call Centre to confirm this information.

We have had some of our users previously state that they have been able to contact IRCC from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to IRCC. Then you should be transferred to the IRCC Call Centre.

Please note though we are not sure if this number continues to work this way.

You may want to give it a try.

Please be aware that long distance charges will apply.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Anna,
Do you have any idea maybe if they do name change (middle and last name) just by the Indian passport?
