Good day,

I arrived in Canada October this year with my wife and daughter as permanent residents. I was wondering if we are eligible for the Ontario Child Care Benefit and how do we apply? I am currently working but my wife is not.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You can find some helpful information on the Canada Revenue Agency website in the Ontario child benefit section.

Here is an excerpt,

To receive the OCB, you (and your spouse or common law partner) need to file an income tax and benefit return and be registered for the CCB. The amount of any OCB payments you are entitled to receive, starting in July 2018, will be based on the information you provide on your 2017 return(s). To make sure your payments arrive on time, file your 2017 return(s) by April 30, 2018.

If you have a questions about the Ontario Child Benefit , you may want to contact the Canada Revenue Agency at 1-800-387-1193 or by teletypewriter (TTY) at 1-800-665-0354.

You may also want to contact the nearest immigrant and refugee serving agency for some additional information and assistance with this process.

You can find the nearest immigrant and refugee serving agency by using our Service Near Me Tool.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
