Right to choose hospital for care?

Hi there,
I am currently in hospital with my 3m old daughter who has E.Coli. I have been in this hospital for 8 days, and have 10 days of antibiotics to go. The Paediatrician I am under right now wants to transfer me "closer" to home even though that hospital is still 45mins from my address. I want to stay in the hospital I am currently in because I have family and friends helping me out with laundry and food while my husband works. Do I have a right to refuse to be transferred?

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.
We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this situation.
We hope that this situation resolves itself as soon as possible.
Most hospitals have information about their patients' rights and responsibilities. Most hospitals also have offices for advocates or for offices of the patient experience or a patient relations office. You may want to see if the hospital where your daughter currently is has a similar type service.
According to the Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care,
"Hospitals are required to have a patient relations process that reflects the hospital's Patient Declaration of Values, which outlines what patients and their families can expect when they visit the hospital."
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation. ===== Anna Settlement.Org Content and Information/Referral Specialist, CIRS,CRS Settlement.Org
